DI Zoe Finch's old team in Birmingham is fragmenting. Mo has moved up to Scotland, Connie is in line for a promotion, and Lesley is settled in Dorset. On top of that, Zoe's son Nicholas is showing no sign of coming home to visit from university in Stirling.

When her partner Carl is offered a new job in Cumbria, he's eager for them to move together. Reluctantly, she agrees. But it's not going to be easy. She's got a new job, a new home and a new team. And it's looking like Carl's job pursuing corrupt coppers may very well clash with her own, investigating murders.
